Gay Rights

Some people against gay rights have argued that equal rights does not include “special rights” and since homosexuals can marry the same people that heterosexuals can it is perfectly okay to ban gay marriage.

Well, it’s not. Homosexuals are specifically excluded from the rights that heterosexuals enjoy in the marriage contract. There are over a thousand rights and privileges in that contract as well. While heterosexuals can marry a partner that they want to share these benefits with, a homosexual cannot. It would be equally as bad if heterosexuals could only marry members of same sex. No one would support that, because it is obviously exclusive and discriminatory.

Then comes the argument that marriages are between a man and a woman, and that they must not let this sacred traditional institution be destroyed by letting homosexuals marry. Furthermore, they say that marriage is a bond that is about procreation and homosexuals cannot procreate.

However, discriminating against people based on religious tradition goes against the foundations of this government, the constitution, the founding fathers, and the separation of church and state. Also, to state that procreation is the main purpose for marriage and is grounds for not allowing people to marry, then a great many heterosexual marriages should be revoked and marriage between impotent, older, or anybody who does not plan to have children should be banned. No one will support this as it too is obviously exclusive and discriminatory.

Next we get to here about how gays are inherently unnatural as people are attracted to others for a reason, procreation, while gay love is just an immoral sexual fetish and/or a genetic defect or a disease that must not be encouraged or allowed to spread.

There is nothing to support that sexual orientation is controlled by a gene that makes you gay or straight. In fact, it is in part believed to be caused by environmental factors in the womb based on previous births. Homosexuality is also not limited to humans as it appears in many animals throughout nature. That tosses sexual fetishism out the window. Regardless of all this, it is still not okay to degrade human beings because some people are icked out by their preferences. Their are plenty of icky heterosexual fetishes and sex that the majority of people (including me) would be up in arms about if they were just banned because someone was icked out by it.

And finally, the gay rights opponents all end up saying that allowing gay marriage is just cracking the door open for polygamy, pedophilia, and bestiality.

To start, there is no connection whatsoever between homosexuality and pedophilia. Most child molesters and rapists are straight, and percentage wise there is no increase in child molestation for gays. None, nada, zippo. Bestiality is wrong, as animals cannot give express consent and again this has no connections to homosexuality. Polygamy offers to have strange social networking where the marriage benefits truly don’t mean anything if everyone is interconnected. Even if we assume that these three things are the worst things ever known, this is just a baseless slippery slope cop-out that redirects the attention of the debate by turning a strictly human rights issue into something else. Most gay rights supporters do not support these things in any capacity.

So that is that, gay rights are human rights. We cannot discriminate against people because of our prejudices, religion, or baseless slippery slope scenarios.

Human rights for all!!!
